EN: Castle Burg looms on a rocky promontory south above the village named after it. The castle was probably built around 1250 as a replacement for the much smaller castle Alt-Biederthal, whose ruins are located only a few steps west on the same rocky ridge. The builders were the lords of Ratolsdorf, who had received their rule as a Habsburg fief. The castle was sold to the Bishop of Basel in 1269, who confirmed the feud. The village of Biederthal, today in France, remained with Habsburg. The family, now called again von Biederthal, kept the fief until the end of the 14th century. In 1392 (or 1401) the fief passed over to the lords of Wessenberg, their rule was quite autonomous within the prince-bishopric and existed until the French Revolution. The castle was rebuilt several times and changed and became more and more a chateau. The name changed from Biedertan to Biederthal, then Burgtal and finally Schloss Burg. Around 1784 the indepted family had to sell the castle. The ownership changed several times. In the early 20th century it served briefly as a climatic spa, then as a restaurant and during the Second World War as a refugee home. It is still privately owned today and not open to the public, apart from the western forecourt and the gate.

Das Schloss wurde wahrscheinlich um 1250 erbaut, als Ersatz der wesentlich kleineren Burg Alt-Biederthal, deren Ruinen sich nur wenig westlich auf dem selben Felsgrat befinden. Die Erbauer waren die Herren von Ratolsdorf, die ihre Herrschaft als habsburgisches Lehen erhalten hatten. Die Burg wurde 1269 an den Bischof von Basel verkauft, der das Lehen bestätigte. Das heute französische Dorf Biederthal blieb bei Habsburg. Die Familie, nun wieder von Biederthal genannt behielt das Lehen bis ins ausgehende 14. Jahrhundert. 1392 (oder 1401) ging das Lehen auf die Herren von Wessenberg über, die Herrschaft war innerhalb des Fürstbistums ziemlich autonom und bestand bis zur französischen Revolution. Die Burg wurde mehrfach umgebaut und verändert und wurde immer mehr zu einem Schloss. Der Name änderte sich von Biedertan zu Biederthal, dann Burgtal und schliesslich Schloss Burg. Um 1784 musste die verschuldete Familie musste das Schloss 1784 verkaufen. Danach wechselte es mehrfach den Besitzer. Im frühen 20. Jahrhundert diente es kurzzeitig als Luftkurort, dann als Restaurant und während des 2. Weltkriegs als Flüchtlingsheim. Es ist auch heute noch in Privatbesitz und, abgesehen vom westlichen Vorhof und dem Tor, nicht öffentlich zugänglich.
