A flood marker near the base of the Leichhardt Tree in Taroom's main street marks the height of the river in the 1890 flood.

Taroom is on the Dawson River & the town itself is undulating in nature. At this point the majority of the town, residences & businesses, would have been well under water & in danger of being washed away. The truck heading down the road towards the river would have had water over the back wheels & it is still quite some distance to the end.

Apparently the 1956 & 2011 floods were even higher but there were no flood markers for these.

The listed website has an article published in the Western Star and Roma Advertiser newspaper dated 12 April 1890 about the flood.
