Baroque Caesar Fountain (Caesarova kašna), the biggest of seven magnificent Olomouc' Baroque fountains, is located in the eastern corner of Horní námestí (Upper Square), facing in the direction of Michael’s Hill. The Olomouc burgher and master stonemason Wenzel Render was assigned the construction of the fountain by the town council in the year 1725. Render consequently invited the young sculptor Johann Georg Schauberger to co-operate on the work. This talented young sculptor created the horseback sculpture of Caesar prior to his twenty-fifth birthday as his masterpiece. The inspirational source for Schauberger’s sculpture of Caesar was the horseback sculpture of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great by Gian Lorenzo Bernini located in the Vatican Scala Regia.

"Julius Caesar is a lava-flooded lunar crater with a low, irregular, and heavily worn wall. It is located to the west of Mare Tranquillitatis, and directly southeast of the crater Manilius on the Mare Vaporum. To the east is the rounded Sosigenes.
The interior floor of Julius Caesar is relatively level, especially in the southwest half. The northern half of the interior has a lower albedo (darker) than the south. Most likely the floor has been covered or modified by ejecta from the impact that created the Imbrium basin. There are a number of crater remnants overlapping the rim along the south and northeast edges. A low ridge crosses the floor across the northeast sections of the crater."
