Liverpool was one of the main Australian Imperial Force training camps in New South Wales during the First World War. There was an internment camp nearby at Holsworthy. Liverpool today is a city in the western suburbs of Sydney & Holsworthy has a major army base.

The headstone is draped by a belt to which is attached a sword.
