Fort Saskatchewan has a very nice modern City Hall that includes a library, administration offices, and council chambers.
The city of about 25,000 people was one of the first settlements in Central Alberta. Back in the l870s the original fort was established by the North West Mounted Police who enforced the laws of newly formed Canada and allowed European settlement to occur. Settlers from Ontario and Quebec arrived, but by 1900 the area had significant numbers Ukrainian, Icelanders, Germans, Scandanavians and Mennonites.
Today Fort Saskatchewan has an economy that is dominated by the petrochemical industry. Dow Chemical has a massive facility and others such as Sherritt International.
The city has plenty of great recreational attributes including a modern multiplex, trails along the North Saskatchewan River and plenty of open parkland.
