At the entrance to the motor court is what is likely to be their original neon sign from the '30s, still shining brightly. Over the many decades it has hung out front it has doubtless pointed many a traveler to the old time accommodations to be found within. Over the office entrance is another, smaller neon sign which notes the availability/non-availability of cabins.
Along an undeveloped stretch of Highway 1, Maine Idyll Motor Court can transport one back in time to the era when motor travel was in its infancy, with motor courts just beginning to spring up along the highways of the world. Established in the 1930s, Maine Idyll has been owned and operated by the same family since it began.
Though civilization is just two miles down the road, one may easily imagine they are deep in wilderness, as the motor court is set in forest, with no other buildings nearby. As Highway 1 parallels I 95 here, there isn't a lot of traffic on Highway 1. As noted previously, if you have a longing to relax in peaceful and nostalgic digs, this place comes highly recommended.
Welcome
The Maine Idyll has been owned and operated by the Marstaller family since it was established in the 1930's. All the cottages have been extensively updated while retaining much of the ambiance of an era that was simpler and more leisurely paced. We take pride in our clean, comfortable cottages, friendly service, pretty surroundings, and excellent value. We've had thousands of repeat customers over the years that like our style and price. We think you will too.
The Maine Idyll has
20 cottages interspersed among a pretty grove of trees. The cottages accommodate two to six guests each. All have modern bathrooms with shower stalls or bathtubs, gas or electric heat, color TV, porches and very comfortable beds. Many units have fireplaces (free firewood provided) and mini kitchens. Some cottages are handicap accessible. Other
amenities include two children's play sets, picnic tables, and walking trails. A free light breakfast is available each morning from 7:30 to 10:30. Well-behaved pets are welcomed at the Maine Idyll. Dogs must be kept on leash.
