The ruins of Hartenštejn Castle on Zámecký vrch (Chateau Hill) near the town of Bochov is valued as an example of an exquisite artillery defence system. Since its foundation in the 15th century, the castle had not served as a residence of the nobility but as a military strong point. In the 18th century, the castle is already mentioned as a ruin. Its ultimate destruction was brought about by its conversion into a "quarry". The stones from Hartenštejn were used as building material for the construction of houses in the town of Bochov.
