In 1879, the Simpson Building was destroyed by a fire. In 1880, the new building that replaced it was first used as the Palmer Feed and Flour Store. In 1889 the building took soot damage from a fire in the North adjacent building but survived. By 1897 the building was now the home of the F.S. Rich Grocery Store which stayed in the building until 1904. In 1904 and up until 1931 the building was used for an unknown general store. In 1920, the two buildings at 138 and 140 collapsed and took part of this building with it. The façade and an undetermined part of the building was salvaged and the building was repaired. The building was built in the Italianate style and is currently one half of the main floor for Italiano's Restaurant.
