A sister & brother were drowned together on 7 February 1927 on the Condamine River & are buried in the Condamine Cemetery.

The sister & brother aged 10 & 8 respectively were attempting to cross the flooded Condamine River along with eleven others in an iron boat designed to convey mail when it capsized.

A news article published in the Brisbane Courier newspaper on 9 February 1927 states in part:

"A drowning fatality of a most pathetic nature occurred at about 6 o'clock on Monday evening in the flood waters of the Condamine River, opposite the little township of Condamine, situated 21 miles south of Miles, when an iron rowing boat provided for the purpose of conveying mail, etc. across the river when in flood capsized and threw all of the 11 occupants into the fast running stream. Of the 11 unfortunate persons only four now survive".
