Moravsky Beroun was part of the Austrian monarchy, in the Sternberg (Šternberk) district.
In 1938, after the Munich Agreement, it was occupied by the Nazi army as one of the municipalities in Sudetenland, one of the 6 towns of Landkreis Bärn. The German speaking population was expelled in 1945 (further to the Beneš decrees) and replaced by Czech settlers, who renamed the town.

Jednou z nejvetších historických památek mesta je kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie, který nechal postavit v letech 1606 - 1610 v renesancním stylu kníže Karel z Münsterberka. K jeho prestavbe došlo ve ctyricátých letech 19. století ve stylu pozdního empíru. Na hlavním oltári z první poloviny 19.století, jehož autorem je sochar Cyril Kutzer, stojí socha Madony od Jirího Antonína Heinze. K výzdobe patrí také dve barokní plátna, autorem menšího z nich je Johan Christoph Handke. Kostelní zvon odlil v roce 1584 Hans Pauer. V roce 1750 byla mezi operáky presbytáre vystavena grotta a do ní sousoší Kristus na hore Olivetské. Výtvarne zdobené jsou lavice, které pochází z roku 1778.
