Coat of Arms of Leutold Stadeški (Leuthold von Stadeck) on the ceiling of the Castle Chapel of St George, Ljubljanski Grad, Ljubljana. The arms bear the legend 'Leuthold von Stadeck A. 1360'.
"Leuthold von Stadeck was the descendant of one of the most important ministries of government in Styria. Its main property was the Stammburg Stadeck in Leber near Graz-Andritz with the church of St. Veit. In addition, the family had a lot of scattering around Hartberg, as well as Frondsberg as fief of the archbishopric.
Their Stammbaum derived the Stadecker from their ancestor Wulfing (1128 - 1160). This was a follower of the Margrave Leopold the Strong of Steyr, who gave him a huge territory in the northern part of Styria for his services. Wulfing's homeland is expected at the Inn (opposite Braunau at the Inn is also a village and Schloss Stubenberg!).
Wulfing's son Otto became the founder of the Kapfenberg line; The younger son Gottschalk I. Schieling led the line of the Stubenberger. A son of this Gottschalk, Rudolf I. (he lived around 1192) is regarded as the paternal father of the Stadecker line.
He was followed by his son Rudolf II (1243 - 1261). He was also a minstrel - three of his songs are still available. Rudolf II was important to Koglhof. His castle Fronsberg (then Vreuntsperch) was first mentioned in 1267 in the "Rationarium Styriae" for the first time.
King Premysl Ottokar of Bohemia ordered Bishop Bruno of Olomouc to become the governor of Styria in 1262. Through his notary, Helwig, from Thuringia, he had an assortment of all the chamber-goods and their income deposited, in order to obtain a precise knowledge of the revenue of the land-prince. This "Hub- or Raitbuch" was called "Rationarium Styriae" in Latin. In this it is called "Item super bonis dominorum de Stadecke XXVI metretas hartpergensis mensure circa Freuntsperch in the Weizerparr." This is regarded as the first mention of the castle Frondsberg.
Leuthold von Stadeck died at the beginning of the year 1272. His widow Anna instituted the foundation mentioned in the church's history of 20 January 1272 for the church Koglhof - their edification is also attributed to this family. At the same time, she renounced her subjects and property around Koglhof and thus also the jurisdiction in favor of the bishop of Seckau.
The line of the Stadecker goes out with Hans von Stadeck around 1403."
