A 3' high bronze, naked, female figure is seated with her legs crossed on top of a 32" square by 31" high polished, black granite base. The mother bent over looking down at an infant she is cradling in her right arm. Her left hand is near the infant's neck. The sculpture was created by Ann Leaves and acquired by the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1982.

The front of the base is inscribed:

William Van Alan Clark Jr., an industrialist and heir to the Avon cosmetics fortune. He died of cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 1983 at the age of 63.

Mr. Clark was the founder and director of several companies. He established the Sippicon Corporation in 1958. He also helped develop the Aquacultural Research Corporation, Diametrics Inc., Siliconex Inc., Morgan Holland Ventures and Tibbetts Industries. He was a director of Avon Products for 30 years. He was a faculty member of the of the Sloan School of Industrial Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 12 years and served as assistant dean.
