A pressed copper, original version (copyright 1920), of E.M. Viquesney's "The Spirit of the American Doughboy" was dedicated on November 11, 1923. This 7' by 3' by 3' sculpture is placed on a 6' high by 4' square granite base. The sculpture depicts a World War I infantryman dressed in combat uniform. He is depicted in motion with his left foor in front of his right foot. A grenade is held in his raised right hand and he is holding a rifle, horizontally, by his side in his left hand. At the back corners are a pair of tree stumps.
