We were in
The Gulch several weeks ago and saw the Salvation Army sign on the building. Well, given that K and I are avid junk scavengers, I decided to have a look while K looked for a benchmark, expecting this to be another thrift store.
I sashayed in and all I saw were tables set up like a restaurant, when this gentle voice asked, “Would you like a bowl of soup?” Surprised, the only thing I could think to say was, “No thank you, I’m well fed.”
We learned on our next visit that they offer lunch on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, the cost a mere 50 cents, and on Thursday they serve dinner at a cost of $1.00.
The dinners usually consist of a beef or pork roast, or ham served with potatoes, vegetables and dessert. They also serve lasagnas, spaghetti with meatballs, macaroni and cheese and many more delicious offerings for dinner on an alternating schedule. Their main holiday offering is on Easter.
In the building adjoining Kate’s Kitchen is the local food bank that serves the community.
