The box, although still in use, is in somewhat of a distressed condition. There is a crack running through the cast metal at the top of the box in the region of the "VR" and crown. The weather protector, over the box's mouth, is also heavily corroded. The paintwork is damaged in places caused by the opening and closing of the door.
