Theodore sits on the banks of the Dawson River & on 1 January 2011 the river peaked at a height of 14.7 metres. At the location of the flood marker the river reached 4.72 metres above ground level. On 28 December 2010 a mandatory evacuation by helicopter was ordered as no other transport options were available. Residents were moved to nearby towns & were able to return home on 10 January 2011.

The flood marker shows three flood levels - 1983, 1956 & 2011. Each are identified by coloured disks (attached to a pole projecting through the marker) which correspond to the information on the marker. 1983 at 2.83 metres is green. 1956 at 4.09 metres is blue. 2011 at 4.72 metres is red.

The marker has aerial photographs of the town during the 2011 flood as well as information about that flood.

A picture showing the level along with any markers telling of what had occurred can be used. Better yet would be a picture of you or someone standing next to the high level mark, that would show if you would have been just wading or completely submersed.
