1914-1916
For King and Country
In Memory of the Boys
Who Died in Liberty's Cause
(Listed are 27 soldiers - hard to read tho)
From the Register of War Memorials in NSW: (

"The monument originally sat in the middle of a triangle section of land bounded by Kenrick Street, Glebe Road and Corlette Street. Corlette street between Kenrick Street and Glebe Road has since been closed. The monument sits on a sandstone base six steps above street level white marble columns and inlays. A white marble soldier stand of the top of the monument." The current marble soldier is a replacement from having the original damaged in the "Newcastle Earthquake of 1989".
"The Junction War memorial was designed by the firm of Wallace L Porter... According to Clarrie Sara, quoted in Les Reedman's thesis on the history of Newcastle architects, the base of the war memorial was designed by William Dobell."
