[FR] Moret-sur-Loing est une ville médiévale du Sud de la Seine-et-Marne abritant plusieurs édifices remarquables, dont un donjon de style roman. Il est construit sur les hauteurs de la ville entre 1128 et 1154 ; à la même période que la Tour Ganne de Grez-sur-Loing.

Ce donjon, exclusivement appelé « grosse tour » au Moyen Âge et sous l’Ancien Régime, est d’abord un édifice royal. Il symbolise le pouvoir du souverain et n’est pas défensif. Sous Philippe le Bel, il cesse d’être une habitation et se transforme pour un temps en prison pour hôtes d’exception.

Le donjon passe ensuite entre de nombreuses mains. Il est même un moment la prison de Nicolas Fouquet, avant d’être victime d’un incendie dévastateur en 1803.
