EN: The old barracks in the Gondoschlucht was built around 1805 as accommodation for the Napoleonic troops. It is the only military building from this period on the south side of the Simplon.
In 1992 the old barracks were renovated and converted into a rest area. Since 2002, a museum about the traffic history of the Simplon has been set up in the middle section.
The museum is open daily and admission is free. Except over the street, the house is also accessible from the Stockalper trail via a metal bridge.
DE: Die alte Kaserne in der Gondoschlucht wurde um 1805 als Unterkunft für die Napoleonischen Truppen gebaut. Es ist das einzige miltärische Gebäude aus dieser Zeit auf der Südseite des Simplon.
1992 wurde die alte Kaserne renoviert und zu einem Rastplatz ausgebaut. Seit 2002 ist im Mittelteil ein Museum über die Verkehrsgeschichte des Simplon eingerichtet.
Das Museum ist täglich geöffnet, der Eintritt ist frei. Ausser über die Strasse ist das Haus auch vom Stockalperweg her über einen Metallsteg erreichbar.
