Near the village of Lake Placid within North Elba, is this gaging station disk set near Monument Falls of the AuSable River.
There is a pull off along New York Route 86, between the village center of Wimington and Lake Placid, about a mile south of the entrance to the Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort. At this pulloff are two monuments about conservation efforts in New York state. From there, there are two trails to Monument Falls, a low falls to the north of the pulloff. Right by the falls is a disk, painted yellow, and, if that wasn't enough, two yellow arrows pointing to it.
The text on the disk is as follows:
Inside along edge: "U.S. Geological Survey" and "Reference Mark"
Inside this text: Usual penalty Statement
Center: "Gaging Station" and a circle.
