In Ticonderoga, on Mt. Defiance, is a survey disk that is designated, "Mt. Defiance, Reset."

To get to the mark, From the center of the village of Ticonderoga, drive south on The Portage, then take a left at a fork and continue on
the Portage. At another intersection, turn left onto Mt. Defiance Street (there is a historical sign about Mt. Defiance there), then drive to the end of the road, then turn right to a gate. If you have a token from the Ft. Ticonderoga Museum, use that token to pass through the gate. If not, you need to pay a fee to go up ($10 in 2016 at the time of visit). After passing through the gate, drive to the top and park, then go to the rock outcropping to the west. The mark, a bronze disk, is there. There is a reference mark that is a brass disk.

The following is from the NGS Datasheet:
(STATION RECOVERY 1943)
"STATION IS ABOUT 1-1/4 MILES SOUTHEAST OF TICONDEROGA ON THE HIGH
PART OF THE MOUNTAIN. A STANDARD BRONZE DISK WAS SET IN THE OLD
DRILL HOLE AND STAMPED--MT DEFIANCE 1872 1942. THE MARK IS IN THE
UNEVEN SURFACE OF ROCK AND IS ABOUT 1 FOOT LOWER THAN THE HIGHEST
PROJECTION OF ROCK AND IS 7 PACES NORTHEAST OF A FORKED CEDAR TREE.

ONE REFERENCE MARK, A 1-1/2 INCH DRILL HOLE IN ROCK MARKED A, IS A
LARGE OUTCROP NORTH OF THE STATION AND IS ON THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE
ROCK. ANOTHER DRILL HOLE MARKED B IS SOUTH OF THE STATION ON THE
SOUTH BREAK OF THE HILL. THESE ARE 1872 MARKS.

RM 1 IS A U.S.L.S. 1930, METAL DISK 2-1/2 INCHES IN DIAMETER SET IN
ROCK SOUTHEAST OF THE STATION AND 4 FEET EAST OF A SMALL WHITE PINE
TREE.

RM NO 2 U.S.L.S. 1930, IS A SIMILAR DISK SET FLUSH IN BEDROCK NEAR
THE WEST OF THE STATION."

(STATION RECOVERY 1991)
"THE MARK IS TO THE WEST OF ROAD
THAT LEADS TO THE LOOKOUT BUILDING. IT IS IN AN UNEVEN SURFACE OF
ROCK ABOUT 1 FT (0.3 M) LOWER THAN THE PROJECTING ROCK.
STATION MARK IS 36.7 FT (11.2 M) NORTHWEST OF REFERENCE MARK 1 A USLS
1930 METAL DISK 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER, 28.3 FT (8.6 M) EAST OF
REFENCE MARK 2 A USLS 1930 METAL DISK 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER, 48.4 FT
(14.8 M) WEST OF A FLAG POLE."

The bronze disk is rather beat up and hard to read. I can make out - with difficulty - the markings described, including "MT. DEFIANCE", "1872" and "194_".

Another disk was found nearby. It is a brass disk, slightly smaller than the above disk. The face is also in fair condition and hard to read. The text along the edge is "U.S. L______ SURVEY". No other identifying text found. I believe this to be RM 1.
