"Established in the centre of the place du Château in Eguisheim, the Fontaine Saint-Léon is one of the largest fountains in the entire Alsace region. The structure is octagonal and has a capacity of 80 000 litres. For many years it was the water source for the whole commune; inhabitants would flock there in the morning to fill their bottles and buckets for the day's activities. In the fountain's centre stands a statue of Saint Léon (sculpted by Hugel and blessed in 1880). "
