The Polish postal service was established on the 18 October 1558 by King Sigismund II Augustus when Cracow was the capital of the Kingdom of Poland. He granted the right for the establishment and management of the post to the Italian Prospero Provana. The services of this post, which ran from Cracow to Venice, could also be used by private persons, despite the fact that the costs of its maintenance were borne by the crown.
Nearby is Rynek Glówny no. 7 which was the principal office of the post office.

The coach is also used as a tourist information office, and there is a post box outside the coach that can still be used to send mail. On its side is the Polish name for the mail POCZTA OSOBOWA above a bugle, the symbol for the mail service.
