One the western shore of Lake Champlain is Plattsburgh, New York, with this building as its city hall.
The Plattsburgh City Hall is located along U.S. Route 9, near the intersection with Cordelia Street.
The building is two stories tall with a lower level below. The building outside is sandstone and has a wide flight of stairs to the doors. At the top of the stairs, six massive columns support a porch overhang. Near the top are the words, "Plattsburgh City Hall."
Plattsburgh is a city of almost 20,000 people. Though Native American settlements are known to have been in Plattsburgh, the first recognized American settlement was done by Zephaniah Platt in 1785 after being granted this land. It became a city in 1902. It has a Mayor-Council form of government.
The Battle of Plattsburgh was fought here, which was an important naval and land battle during the War of 1812. Also, Plattsburgh's current airport was once an Air Force Base.
