Érigé à cet endroit en août 1804 sous le règne de Napoléon 1er par l’équipe d’astronomes de M Maurice Henry (1763/1825). J’ai une sœur plus grande que moi installée à SAUSHEIM (
WMT6BQ). Nous sommes de forme pyramidale, ma grande sœur mesure 7 mètres alors que moi je n’en mesure que 5, par contre je suis construite entièrement en grès des Vosges. A nos pieds ,12 petites bornes en grès ont été installées. Initialement, un écusson à l’effigie de Bonaparte se trouvait sur une des faces de ma grande sœur. Celui-ci a été détruit par les Autrichiens lors de l’invasion de 1813. Sur une de mes faces est inscrite la raison de ma construction.

Ce mot de nos jours n’est plus usité, il a disparu du langage mais auparavant il signifiait : "Point cardinal qui indique le Nord géographique avec pour repère l'Etoile Polaire située dans la Petite Ours". Ma grande sœur de SAUSHEIM, (Méridionale en opposition à Septentrion) aurait dû initialement se trouver sur la colline de RIXHEIM en raison des effets de la réfraction atmosphérique (la réfraction atmosphérique est un phénomène optique qui consiste en une trajectoire non rectiligne de la lumière à la traversée de l'atmosphère et qui est dû à la variation de la densité de l'air avec l'altitude), et une troisième soeur aurait dû être érigée à JUNGHOLTZ-THIERENBACH.

Set up in this place in August, 1804 under the reign of Napoleon 1st by astronomers' team of M Maurice Henry (1763/1825). I have a sister bigger than me installed to SAUSHEIM (
WMT6BQ). We are of pyramidal form, my older sister measures 7 meters while I measure only 5, on the other hand I am completely built in stoneware of Vosges. In our feet, 12 small borders in stoneware were installed. Initially, a badge in the effigy of Bonaparte was on one of the faces of my older sister. This one was destroyed by the Austrians during the invasion of 1813. On one of my faces is registered the reason of my construction.

This french word nowadays is not usual any more, it disappeared from the language but previously it meant: "cardinal point which indicates the True north with for mark the Pole star situated in Small Bear". My big sister of SAUSHEIM, (Southern in opposition to North) would have initially had to be on the hill of RIXHEIM because of the effects of the atmospheric refraction (the atmospheric refraction is an optical phenomenon which consists of a not rectilinear trajectory of the light in the crossing of the atmosphere and which is due to the variation of the density of the air with the height), and the third sister should have been set up to JUNGHOLTZ-THIERENBACH.
