This statue shows busts of Soviet cosmonaut Valery Bykovsky (born in 1934) and East German Astronaut Sigmund Jähn (born in 1937). The busts are made of bronze and are about 1 ft tall. Metal rings around the necks symbolize the collars of their space suits. The busts are placed on a granite pedestal bearing the inscription Gemeinsam auf der Erde und im All (Together on Earth and in Space).
Both men are in, or close to their 80s now, but they are still alive and well and on occasion, both still give interviews.
