In 1877 this Italianate style building, designed by local architect, John Sharp, was built to house the Canfield Grocery and Willow Ware Store owner by E. Canfield and his partner George Palmer. The Canfield store remained into the 1880's when H. Stringham had a new grocery store at the site. In 1890, Mr. Stringham purchased the building from E. Canfield. By 1904 A.J. Carnahan took over the grocery business. In 1914, new building owner F.C. Thome, replaced the old stone basement with a new concrete basement and leveled the first floor to match the sidewalk. By 1916 the building was home to unknown retail shops and they remained there through an unknown date. Today the building houses a thrift store.
