She is buried in the Cecil Plains cemetery on the southern part of the Darling Downs region.

The National Library of Australia's Trove (digitised newspapers) has the reporting of her death by the Dalby Herald under the heading "Girl Drowned - Cecil Plains Tragedy - Unavailing Rescue Efforts"

Miss Wylma ("Billie") Stevens Jurgs second daughter of Mr and Mrs. Fred Jurgs, Cecil Plains was drowned on Sunday afternoon whilst bathing with a party of friends on the Condamine River. Strenuous but unavailing efforts were made to rescue her, and the body was not recovered until 3 hours later. Miss Jurgs had attended a sports meeting in Cecil Plains on Saturday afternoon, and on the invitation of her friends, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Warfield and the Misses Warfield, spent the night at their residence, the old station homestead. Early on Sunday afternoon a party including the Misses Norma and Winnie Warfield, Miss Jurgs, and others went bathing in a popular spot in the Condamine river adjacent to the township. Some were in a boat and others had swum to the bank, when Miss Jurgs decided to cross from the boat to the riverside. She got across alright and had reached up and grasped Miss Warfield's hand when she suddenly slipped on the rocky bank and fell back into the river, dragging Miss Warfield with her.

Knowing Miss Jurgs to be an indifferent swimmer Mr. Chas. Parsons who was in the boat in midstream without a moment's hesitation dived to her rescue, but came to the surface with Miss Warfield, who had broken away from her companjon's clutching hands. Miss Warfield cried: "Save Billie; I'm alright, I can swim. Mr. Parsons again dived for Miss Jurgs, and other swimmers by this time were in the water and desperate efforts were being made to locate the missing girl, who singularly failed to rise to the surface .......
