The Alberta plaque gives some background on the people that first settled this area in the late 1800s.
In 1871, the Lamoureaux Brothers, Joseph and Frank, arrived on the Saskatchewan and by 1872 had brought their families to settle here along its banks. By 1879 they had opened one of the first schools in the west. Skilled agriculturalists, lumbermen, millers and ferry operators, they contributed greatly to the development of North Eastern Alberta.
