THE LOCATIONOld Baths Building"The town of Caldas das Taipas has always been a busy and dynamic place of passage, and a good choice for a stop, as it has several attractions, among which stands an ancient spa.
The therapeutic use of its waters dates back to the Roman Empire.
To prove it, we can find, next to the church Village Mother, a huge block of granite - Stone or Ara of Trajan, with an extensive Latin inscription dedicated to the Roman Emperor Trajan Augustus, denouncing the demand and utilization during the imperial era , these medicinal waters and archaeological remains dating from the same era, discovered in the recent recovery of the oldest seaside resort, also called old Baths.

THE PERSONDr. António MagalhãesThe Dr. António Magalhães at the time of the inauguration was the Mayor of the city of Guimarães. He has a BA in History from the Faculty of Arts, University of Porto. He was elected as Member of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic for the 1st time in 1976, where he remained for 11 years as such. Was elected Councillor for the Municipality of Guimarães from 1979 to 1990. In late 1982 he was Deputy Mayor of Guimarães, ending the mandate in late 1985. In December 1989 he was elected Mayor of Guimarães, with an absolute majority, a position he holds to be re-elected successively in 1993, 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2009.
