By the looks of the instrument depicted on the grave marker for William Henry Warren, he played an 8-string instrument. It is not shaped like a guitar (6 or 12 strings), nor like a mandolin, which usually has 8 strings. Perhaps the artist intended it to be a simple mandolin. At any rate, William was clearly a musician.
