In Wilmington, on top of Whiteface Mountain, is the The Atmospheric Sciences Research Center at the State University of New York (ASRC) Whiteface Mountain Field Station.

The field station is located at an elevation of 4867 ft in elevation. One way to get there is to go up the gondola at Little Whiteface, then hike the rest of the way up. Another way is to drive up the Whiteface Memorial Highway, paying a fee at the tollbooth, then, at about 4300 ft, park the car, then either take an elevator to the top, or climb the final height. At the top is a cylindrical building which is where the weather station is located. The building has windows on all sides. At the base, by the door inside the tower (no admittance), is a video about the acid rain research being conducted by collecting water from the cloud droplets.

The web site has a lot on this station. There are the usual measurements like temperature, wind, humidity, and pressure. There is even time-lapsed videos of the weather conditions recorded by its web cam. The web site goes further and discusses the research being done there and at the Marble Lodge nearby.
