When exploring and appreciating the architecture of a beautiful place, Blasterz ALWAYS look up.
The underside of the ornate St Margaret's Church gates (added 1893) surprised us with the beauty of the ornately carved roses and ecclesiastical symbols on the ribs underneath the main portico.
Look carefully: One devil chimera, sneakily added to the design leers down on those entering or exiting the sanctuary, baring his pointy teeth.
If that doesn't scare you into church, I don't know what will!
The gates were installed in 1893, the gift of two Westminster city officials. The dedication plaque reads:
"The gates to the porch were presented by Henry A. Hunt and George H. Trollope
Chief Burgesses of Westminster
1893"
