The plaque is located in Dorset which the road reached via Kinmount and Minden in about 1860. From here it followed what is now the boundary between Muskoka and Haliburton (which accounts for the boundary taking many twists and turns) and then headed north west towards Lake Nippissing.
Much of the old road has long since gone although you can still find traces of it including the old homesteads established by early settlers who were awarded free grants of land along its route.
