This building was built as a garage and repair shop for W.A. Hemstock who ran an auto livery in the adjacent building to this one. It is possible that this building was known as the Sparta Auto Company. By 1930 the business was owned by Mand and Hemstock. This building is part in local folklore in that it is believed that a woman was trapped and buried alive in the basement what construction was taking place. It is said her body is still there today. For a long time the building housed the Wisconsin Gas Company. Today it's the home of a law office.
