Designed by local architect F.D. Foote this building was built by local masonry contractor L.V. Huschka. This building was constructed in 1895 for W. C. Hoffman as an investment property. The original tenants of the building were Frank A. Young's Boot and Shoe Store and Simpson and Schmidt's Department Store and Tin Shop. In 1904 the hardware and tin shop were still there but the other side was now the John D. Reese Tailor Shop. Both stores remained there until at least 1916.
