Bad Ems had two important economics factors. One was the spa the other the mines around the town. The most important mine of Bad was the Neuhoffungsstollen. It is placed near the center of Bad Ems. It was opened in 1858. It consists of 15 level whith the deepest one in 899m below ground and 4 level above gound. The minerals in this mine consists mainly of lead and zinc. The mine was closed in 1950s.
Special for this mine the entry which is designed like a portal. The mine is closed and is not opened for the public.
