In the North Elba village of Lake Placid is the Olympic Center Museum, which is deep within the Olympic Center.
The Olympic Center is in downtown Lake Placid and is easy to see along New York Route 73. There are municipal parking lots, but parking may be a challenge. There are signs to the museum - it is below the 1980 ice rink.
The museum is a single room with exhibits all around. Exhibits include comparing ice skating costumes and skates between the 1932 and 1980 Olympics, an array of Olympic torches from many Olympic events, an interactive 'climb in' display of luge, sled, and bobsleds. Also, is a display of a goal from the 1980 Olympics and equipment belonging to Jim Craig, the goalie of the Men's U.S. Hockey Team that pulled off the incredible win over the U.S.S.R. Behind this is a couch where people can sit and see the entire semi-final game between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. teams. After visiting the museum, you can walk around and see the 1980 and 1932 rinks, if they are available.
