This impressive building of red brick dates from 1873 and was in use as a fire station until 1915.In 2016 it still serves the community as a town clock.
A historic plaque on the front of the clock tower gives some history of the building as follows:
"THE CLOCK TOWER
Built in 1873
This building housed the local fire station until 1915
Erected by Heath and Hampstead Society"
The 4-sided clock is mounted on a tall red brick tower. It is inset in a square Portland stone decorative frame with etched leaves in the corners around the circular clock face. The clock face is white, with ornate black hands pointing at Roman numerals. Black tick marks around the outside of the clock face denote minutes.
