Folly Castle

Folly Castle was built in 1763 by Peter Jones, V. Jones was the second grandson of Peter Jones, the trader and alleged source of the town's name. Whe constructed, Folly Castle was a two-story, wood frame, Georgian styled residence. Folly Castle received its name on account of the perceived extravagance of its childless owner in erecting such a large of a home. The house was remodeled to its current Victorian appearance between 1865 and 1885. The house is well maintained and is in very good condition. - paraphrased from Historic District Nomination form.
