Access is from Marblemount along the Cascade River Road. The hike climbs about 1800 ft on 31 easy switchbacls and a traverse to the pass. The views from the pass are spectacular.
According to the Cascade Pass Chronology (http://wsm.wsu.edu/s/we.php?id=240) this BM goes back to 1897. "Thomas G. Gerdine, leading a USGS survey party, established an iron survey post topped by a brass cap (bench mark) at the pass, stamped “5423” feet in elevation (U.S. Geological Survey 1914). This elevation is based on an assumed datum at Chelan Falls. In 1898 a corrected elevation of “5392” was stamped on the previous year’s brass cap by L. D. Ryus, under the original elevation. The original elevation was stamped over to obscure it."
