This historic marker stands in the Yellow Bedroom, which hosted many famous and glamourous people during Lady Baillie's ownership.
The interpretive sign reads as follows:
"YELLOW BEDROOM
This room is in the part of the castle that would have formed the private rooms for Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII’s first wife.
Lady Baillie had the room redecorated as a bedroom, with adjoining marble bathroom. The castle was a haven for the rich and famous. Houseguests included film stars, singers, politicians, and the aristocracy. The visitor books show that David Niven, Charlie Chaplin and Noel Coward stayed here. Guests enjoyed tennis, fishing, croquet, and private cinema showings.
The stables in the gatehouse were converted into a squash court, and there was a swimming pool in the garden of the Maiden’s Tower, the first private pool in England to have a wave machine.
This bedroom remains in use as one of the castles 24 bedrooms for guests at weddings, meetings and other events. Another castle bedroom is shown above.
