The waymark coordinates are for the entrance of Leeds castle. Being a solid stone castle, a GPS will not work inside.

Leeds Castle is famed for its beauty and history. Today, it is open to the public for tours, events, and conferences. Your admission ticket gets you inside and on an informative guided tour of the castle, with some free time to explore the beautiful and historic grounds as well.

This historic marker stands in the Queen's Room, the elegant chambers of Queen Catherine de Valois, wife of English King Henry V.

The interpretive sign reads as follows:

"HENRY V AND CATHERINE DE VALOIS

This room is dedicated to King Henry V, royal owner of Leeds Castle, and his queen Catherine de Valois.

Two years after his remarkable victory at Agincourt, Henry returned to France and in 1420 claimed the French princess, Catherine de Valois, for his bride. They married at St. John's church in Troyes and King Charles VI of France recognized Henry as his heir, in preference to his own son.

Henry was captivated by Catherine and settled a fortune of dower gifts on her, including Leeds Castle. She was crowned queen on 23rd February 1421 at Westminster Abbey, and the couple spent the spring on progress so everyone could see their beautiful new Queen. Shortly after, Henry returned to France and Catherine, who was pregnant, gave birth to their son, Henry VI, on 6th December in that year.

Henry V was suddenly taken ill in August 14 22 and died six weeks later age 35, bequeathing Leeds Castle to his 21-year-old widow. Catherine held Leeds Castle until her death in 1437."
