In the 1940's West Rutland, a town of 3500, erected a wooden memorial for those who served in WWII at the West Rutland School. That memorial stood until the 1970's where the elements took its toll on the memorial. The Town of West Rutland formed a committee in 2014 to erect an new monument to the 606 men and women who served in WWII. The new WWII memorial is made of granite and was dedicated in August 2015
