This statue depicts Mayor W. Edward Bohrer, Jr. who served the city from from 1986 until his passing in 1998. Mayor Bohrer was a life-long resident of Gaithersburg. He used to introduce himself as the "mayor of the greatest city on earth".
The life-sized bronze sculpture is an accurate depiction and is the work of Jay Hall Carpenter, a former Gaithersburg resident and sculpture artist.
The statue was dedicated in May 2016 to commemorate the city's 20-year identification as a CHARACTER COUNTS! city.
