The baroque church of Simplon Dorf in the village center was built in 1725 on the site of an older church.

EN: The parish church of Simplon stands on the northern edge of the village square. A tall, simple design nave with a few small windows hides the view to the cemetery and the side chapels on the north side. also the church tower does hardly rise above the roof, when seen from the square. The character of the church, as the whole historic village center, already already is clearly influenced by the Italian culture.
The church dates probably back to the 12th or 13th century and was first a branch church of the parish of Naters. But not later than 1267, Simplon had become a separate parish. 1359 is the earliest mention of the church patron St. Gotthard (1422, according to other sources). In 1725 the present church was rebuilt and consecrated in 1736. However, some elements were taken from the previous building; the tabernacle room is gothic, and parts of the interior date from the 16th century.
DE: Die Pfarrkirche von Simplon Dorf steht am Nordrand des Dorfplatzes. Ein hohes, einfach gestaltetes Langhaus mit wenigen kleinen Fenstern verdeckt die Sicht auf den Friedhof und die Seitenkapellen an der Nordseite. auch der Kirchturm ragt von Platz her gesehen kaum über das Dach. Die Kirche, wie überhaupt der ganze Dorfkern, hat schon einen deutlich von Italien geprägten Charakter.
Die Kirche stammt wahrscheinlich ursprünglich aus dem 12. oder 13. Jahrhundert und war zuerst eine Filialkirche der Pfarrei Naters. Spätestens 1267 war Simplon eine eigene Pfarrei. 1359 ist die älteste Erwähnung des Kirchenpatrons St. Gotthard (Nach anderen Quellen 1422). 1725 wurde die heutige Kirche neu gebaut und 1736 geweiht. Allerdings wurden einige Bestandteile vom Vorgängergebäude übernommen; das Sakramentshäuschen ist gotisch, auch Teile der Inneneinrichtung stammen noch aus dem 16. Jahrhundert.
