The sign hangs over Lewes High Street from the front of the pub. It is double-sided showing the same picture on each side. The picture shows a man, probably Thomas Paine, holding a book open at the title page. Behind him are parts of flags that could be the UK, France and the USA. The title page shows the pub's name and that of the book, "Rights of Man" and the name Thomas Paine and the year of publication 1791. Below the bottom edge of the sign is the name of the brewery, "Harveys of Lewes".
