This steel Coaster was originally called 'Hydro' when it opened In 2002. Oakwood Theme Park, changed the name from Hydro to 'Drenched' in 2011.
This hybrid coaster has a large single car/shuttle/boat/projectile, that seats up to 24 people, that is chain driven up to over 120 feet, rounds a curve, & then drops/plunges at 55 MPH into a large pond, making a giant splash, often over 40 feet high.
Drenched only operates in the afternoon, then at least a dozen riders are required before the water is switched on & the boat can be dispatched.
"When Oakwood announced their next major attraction following Megafobia, many where shocked and confused by Oakwood's choice. Everyone had seen Perilous Plunge at Knott's Berry Farm in California and gazed in sheer disbelief at the ferocious near-vertical drop, dizzying height, and the minimalistic lap bar restraints in its boats.
"It was a ride UK enthusiasts wanted to ride but no-one would have ever imagined that one of these Intamin River Plunge rides would ever be built in the UK, especially in torrential rain prone Wales!
Why exactly Oakwood thought it would be a good idea has never been made clear - To be different perhaps? To offer a unique ride experience like none other on this side of the Atlantic? One thing is clear however, Oakwood made the right choice. The ride - called Hydro when it originally opened - was well received by patrons.
Up to 24 riders sit in a boat which clims up a lift hill, turns back on itself and rushes down a nearly vertical drop into a large pool of water. This causes a huge 45ft high tidal wave to soak the rider and anybody standing on the observation bridge. Water guns can be operated by onlookers to ensure the riders are totally Drenched!"
