"There has been a Catholic Church on this site since 1838...The growing parish required a larger church and in 1867 Father Hourigan helped plan the expansion by buying more land and commissioning the prominent architect Isaac G. Perry to design the building. The new church was completed in 1872 at a cost of $170,000 and dedicated to Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland."
