In Brimfield, along the Grand Trunk Trail, is this Picture Post fixture, stating its location at Latitude 42.110003 Longitude -72.180047.
The fixture is located about a half mile southeast of the US 20 parking lot for the Grand Trunk Trail, which is on land managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers - Brimfield Division. There is a kiosk at this location, but you don't need it for this waymark - the path is wide and straight to the mark.
The fixture is about chest high and is a post with a flat, circular platform on top, with an eight-sided fixture fastened to the top. On the post are several laminated sheets screwed on with the coordinates at the top.
Picture Post Project is a network of fixtures located at places where plant vegetation cycles (phenology) are being monitored. There are well over a hundred sites across the U.S., currently, Picture Post Project is part of the Digital Earth Watch (DEW) network and is overseen by the University of New Hampshire.
This fixture was installed to monitor the recovery of the landscape, here, from an EF3 tornado that struck on June 1, 2011. The first set of pictures were posted on March 14, 2014. Changes in the vegetation are evident between the earliest and latest picture sets.
